Chelsea And Manchester City Youth Teams Grab European Group Wins

The English clubs maintain their 100% record in Europe this season against tough opposition.

Chelsea and Manchester City’s U-19 teams kept up their strong European form by winning their second group games, ahead of their senior teams’ crucial clashes in the Champions League proper tonight.

Manchester City came from behind against Roma, with goals from Olivier Ntcham and Thierry Ambrose turning the tables after Francesco Di Mariano opened the scoring for Roma.

Having turned things round, Patrick Vieira’s side held on to win after a tense period of stoppage time. City keeper Angus Gunn made a string of excellent saves to keep Roma out and put City in prime position to advance from the group.

Chelsea had an easier time of it, smashing four past Sporting Lisbon in the first half, before Tammy Abraham completed the rout with a stunning fifth just after the break.

Chelsea now top their group too, and will hope that they can go further than last year, when they were disappointingly knocked out by Schalke in the Quarter-finals after winning all six of their group games.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City’s senior teams will be hoping for equally positive results in their games tonight, with neither of them having won in the first round of games.
