Chelsea’s Ryan Bertrand has hinted at a permanent move to Southampton, suggesting that he may not return to the Blues once his loan spell is finished, according to the Metro.

Having come up through the Chelsea youth system Bertrand looked like a fantastic prospect for the London side. He even looked like breaking into the first team on a regular basis at times; starting the Champions League final in 2012.

He spent much of last season on loan at Aston Villa however, and has been shipped out again this campaign to Southampton.

The English left-back seems happy with the Saints so far, and he even scored in their 2-1 win over QPR this weekend.

This has prompted him to suggest that he may stay on with Ronald Koeman’s new outfit, and a return to Chelsea is no longer a certainty.

“Since I left to go on loan to [Aston] Villa, it’s been about me again,” he said.

“I’d never rule anything out, but it’s just been about getting out there and playing consistently without the thought process of what Chelsea think or whether I’m going back there.”

Bertrand has managed to get himself two caps for England so far, but he will need to get regular game time under his belt if he is to have any hope of becoming an England regular however.
