Manchester City are three points adrift of second-place in the race to qualify from their Champions League group, after Roma held them to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium.

It all started so well for the Premier League champions. Sergio Aguero coolly slotted home from the penalty spot after he was brought down by former City defender Maicon. He was lucky not to be sent off for the offence – after being adjudged to have pulled down the Argentine in the penalty area. With the Brazilian the last man, surely he had to go? But then… He might be 38 years of age, but Francesco Totti cannot stop scoring for AS Roma. The loyal Italian, who has been with the Serie A giants since 1992, grabbed his first goal on English soil here, as he levelled the scores.
