GK: Roy Carroll

The Northern Irish goalkeeper wasn’t in possession of the safest pair of hands in the United goal. He recently left Greek side Olympiakos and joined Notts County on a one year contract.

RB: Gary Neville

Arguably, Neville is the greatest right back in Premier League history and was a stalwart in Sir Alex Ferguson’s side during the 1990’s and 2000’s. The 39-year-old retired in 2011 and currently combines a role in England’s coaching set-up with a job as a pundit on Sky Sports.

LB: Gabriel Heinze

The Argentine was United’s first choice left back during Rooney’s debut however, sometime later his career at Old Trafford went sour and he ended up moving to Real Madrid. Heinze retired in 2014, spending his final years at Newell’s Old Boys.
