The reigning Premier League champions tweeted that captain Francesco Totti had never scored in England, something which the 38-year-old veteran saw.

Inevitably Totti netted the equaliser for Roma after Sergio Aguero had given the hosts the lead and the Serie A outfit came away from the Etihad Stadium with a much valued point and left the Citizens struggling in the competition once again.

“City’s tweet? It really brought me luck,” the Italian told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Totti is now the oldest goalscorer in European history and has shown that despite his advancing years he is still a top-class talent that could inspire his team to the last-16 at the expense of City.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side now have two matches with supposed group whipping boys CSKA Moscow knowing that only successive victories will be good enough to see their qualification campaign get back on track.
