La Liga side Valencia have reportedly pulled out of the race for the Colombian, who is valued by this source at €40m (£31m), and could be a player White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino looks to beef up his attack.

Thus far this season Emmanuel Adebayor, Harry Kane, Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela have scored just one Premier League goal between them and one can see how Martinez would be deemed as a viable January transfer target.

Martinez has been a huge hit since moving to Portugal, scoring 65 goals in 96 appearances for FC Porto, but could perhaps be tempted by a move to the Premier League.

Tottenham’s lack of a Champions League berth may prove an obstacle so one would imagine Spurs would have to be handily placed near the top end of the table in January to entice Martinez into considering a move to the north London side.
