Alves is quoted by O Globo stating;

“Next year I move to England to play in the cradle of football. This will be my last season at Barca.”

Louis van Gaal has often been linked with moves to bring in the experienced Brazilian, who would be a big improvement on the likes of Rafael and Chris Smalling and is seemingly very much looking to make a move to the English top tier.

The 31 year old’s Nou Camp contract expires at the end of the season and as such Barcelona may look to cash-in on the former Sevilla man in January to avoid losing the player on a free transfer.

Alves has been a virtual ever present in a Barcelona back-line that hasn’t conceded a goal in six La Liga matches this term though perhaps the shock of a 3-2 defeat at PSG on Tuesday night has left the wide-man looking towards a new challenge.

Given the fact that Man United spent over £150m on new players over the summer van Gaal may do well to look to cost-effective options to boost his back-line.
