Spurs hope to make a shock January move for FC Porto star Jackson Martinez.

Italian side Napoli have also been linked with a move, as star striker Gonzalo Higuain could be leaving the San Paolo, but Tottenham are particularly keen on an eye-catching move for a striker in January as senior duo Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor have both started the new season slowly and youngster Harry Kane still hasn’t quite established himself.

Indeed, Spurs could consider offloading Soldado to help finance a deal for Martinez, with the Spaniard having failed to impressive since his move from Valencia last summer, but they are unlikely to recoup the £26 million that they paid to Los Ches for the player.

With Porto reportedly having been demanded £40m for Martinez this summer, a figure that scared off potential Premier League suitors including Arsenal and Chelsea, they are likely to have to spend big to sign the Colombian, who also signed a new deal at the Estadio Dragao recently.

It would be a statement of intent from Daniel Levy and manager Mauricio Pochettino, however, with Martinez’s goalscoring record for Porto, a club who have a reputation for developing talent from South America, being stunning.
