The Reds wide-man, 19, has recently emerged as a top target for the Champions League winners, and hope that a bid of around £32m might be enough to lure the England starlet away from Anfield after his recent high-profile contract dispute with the club.

Having become a first-team regular last season, Sterling remains on surprisingly low wages for a senior player at Premier League level, and recent reports suggest he is not in a hurry to sign a new deal as he considers his options.

A move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs would no doubt appeal, with the Bernabeu being home to some of the finest players in the world in recent years, including former Tottenham Hotspur forward Gareth Bale, who has urged other British-based players to try moving abroad.

Meanwhile, Barkley is another top English talent attracting plenty of interest at the moment, and Real are ready to rival the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City for his signature in the next transfer window.

It is thought that Everton have set a staggering £50m asking price for the 20-year-old, who broke onto the scene last season with some superb performances at Goodison Park, but Real hope that the Toffees will allow the player to move for slightly cheaper if it is to a foreign club instead of a Premier League rival.

Real will open with an offer of around £46m for the player, and it would certainly mark a big change if two of the country’s finest young talents did choose to make the move abroad early in their careers.

Other former England stars such as David Beckham, Michael Owen and Steve McManaman have also represented Real Madrid in recent times.
