Paris Saint Germain take on Monaco this evening, with the pressure firmly on two big-money signings who have been struggling to perform: striker Edinson Cavani and midfielder Joao Moutinho.

Both have been heavily linked with moves to the Premier League, with PSG’s Cavani interesting the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, and Moutinho potentially on the way to Tottenham, who have missed out on him in the past.

Cavani has struggled to recreate his best form in Paris, often playing out of position in a wide attacking role, regularly finding himself as the understudy to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is currently sidelined through injury.

The Uruguayan has scored four times in eleven games so far this season, a modest return from a player who cost £55.6m when he signed from Napoli in the summer of 2013.

Goal.com adds that Moutinho has proven little but a deadweight for the principality side, with his most memorable contribution a somewhat fortuitous winning goal in the Champions League against Bayer Leverkusen – a match in which he was otherwise mute.

Having arrived in France from Porto, he was expected to be one of the stars of the Monaco side, a hub of technical activity in the centre of the field who would feed Radamel Falcao while providing a solid base for his side to work from.

Instead, his first campaign produced only one goal and six assists, and he has fared little better so far this year. Both French sides are looking to cut costs as they move in line with Financial Fair Play regulations, and could allow the two stars to move on come the turn of the year.
