Though much maligned in England the former Man United coach proved successful on the continent, most notably at FC Twente who he guided to an Eredivisie title.
Since moving to Derby County last September McClaren’s star has risen with the 53 year old guiding the Rams to the play-off final.
Derby County have lost just one of their opening eleven games this term but one wonders if any move to bring in McClaren would go down well with the Magpies faithful.
