French giants Monaco are set to continue with their ambitious recruiting policy by making a surprise move for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney only months after he penned a new deal to stay at Old Trafford, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Vadim Vasilyev, vice-president of AS Monaco and the closest adviser to the Russian billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev, has given the strongest indication yet that the club still hope to sign after hinting that they were in talks to bring the Liverpool-born forward to the principality last year.
“One year ago, we were discussing one of the top players of the Premier League, a top English player,” Vasilyev said.
“But it was on the table. This opportunity finally did not happen, but I think one day that it will come, that it will happen.”
Monaco were thought to be looking to tempt the player with a tax free wage package but the striker sought to end speculation in February by committing his future to the Red Devils.
However, Monaco will try and revive a deal with an attractive financial offer to both club and player.
