Reports on Goal.com explain that the Italian striker, who has struggled to capture his best form since arriving at the Merseyside club from AC Milan this summer, is still in regular contact with his former boss.

Mancini worked with the striker at both Inter and Manchester City, and knows as well as anyone how Balotelli’s actions away from the field can overshadow anything he does on the pitch.

He believes that this is the 24-year-old’s final opportunity to prove himself, and knows that his former prodigy must use his time at Anfield to display his qualities and prove any doubters wrong.

“Mario is a good guy, but he is aware that Liverpool is probably his final opportunity to prove what he can do on the pitch,” Mancini told reporters earlier this week.

“It’s his last chance. I often talk to him via text message, but only he can help himself now. He told me that he wants to and must score more goals for Liverpool.”

Balotelli has scored just one goal for the Reds so far this season, and is yet to find the net in the Premier League. Last weekend he was dropped in favour of veteran forward Rickie Lambert.
