Magpies boss Alan Pardew attempted to land the experienced former Lyon man over the summer but the 29 year old opted to move to the South Wales side but apparently signed a contract that included a tempting £7m release clause.

Swansea City brought in Gomis on a free transfer as they feared the loss of top-scorer Wilfried Bony but they retained the services of the Ivory Coast powerhouse and as such their new addition hasn’t had all that much of a look-in.

Gomis has impressed when called upon but has made just two Premier League starts as Swansea City started the season in fine fashion, Garry Monk’s side currently sitting in fifth place in the table.

Pardew would be wise to bring in another striker in January, though misfiring Senegal international Papiss Cisse has at least got back into gear of late, netting four goals in three Premier League appearances this season.
