Reports in the Daily Express explain that despite a bumpy start to his Old Trafford career, De Gea has established himself as one of the finest goalkeepers in the Premier League, most recently putting in a man-of-the-match display in United’s 2-1 win over Everton at the weekend.

This has led to interest from the European Champions, who are eager to seek competition for Costa Rica’s World Cup star Keylor Navas, who will be unchallenged for the number spot should – as expected – Casillas depart the club.

De Gea, who was signed by Sir Alex Ferguson in 2011 from Madrid’s local rivals Atletico, has gone on to make 139 appearances for the Red Devils after replacing Edwin Van der Sar in the United goal.

Meanwhile, Madrid legend Casillas is eager to leave the Spanish giants, after receiving a barrage of abuse from fans following a number of poor performances at the start of the season.

Arsenal and Liverpool are both looking into taking the 33-year-old to England, with the latter also interested in former Barcelona stopper Victor Valdes, who is a free agent following his release at the end of last season.
