Reports in El Confidencial made the claim yesterday, and add that the bid was immediately dismissed. The 25-year-old has endured some difficult moments in North London since his arrival from Real Madrid last summer, but the Gunners weren’t tempted.

Ozil has made 47 appearances for Arsene Wenger’s side thus far, and has regularly criticised for his below-par performances, which have led to suggestions that he his not trusted to play in his favoured number ten role for the ‘big’ fixtures.

The Daily Mail explains that Ozil was criticised for another abject showing as the Gunners were downed by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea on Sunday, with Wenger choosing to play the German on the wing once again.

That was despite the players best performance for Arsenal so far this season coming during the 3-0 victory against Aston Villa which saw the £42.5m man play centrally and score his team’s first goal of the game.
