Spain’s XI Without Barcelona Players; With Atletico Madrid Stars And Valencia Youngster Coming In

Posted by

The Spain team would be hurt by the loss of its Catalan stars, but perhaps not as much as it would have been a few years ago.

The Catalan independence movement is gathering momentum, and a referendum may happen on November the 9th. The Spanish league have said that Barcelona would have to leave La Liga, and Spain’s national team would be adversely affected too.

Even without the Barcelona born players the Spain squad is terrifyingly strong. Atletico Madrid are the main beneficiaries, although several young players might get their break too.

Goalkeeper and Defence:

David de Gea retains his place in goal. His recent form has been excellent, and it seems he has fought off the competition for his place. In defence, with Jordi Alba and Pique out, Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta and Real Madrid’s Carvajal play on the flanks, with Sergio Ramos potentially partnering young Real Sociedad centre-back Inigo Martinez. That is unless the Basque region decides to leave Spain as well.
