The 23 year old custodian has been in fine form of late, putting in a man of the match display against Everton last weekend, and is perhaps seen by the Bernabeu side as the ideal long term replacement for Iker Casillas.

Casillas spent a good 18 months out of the Real Madrid starting eleven with successive boss’s opting to use Diego Lopez, however this season Carlo Ancelotti has restored the experienced World Cup winner as his number one with mixed results.

De Gea made a name for himself with Atletico Madrid and could be tempted by a move back to his hometown though it’s clear Louis van Gaal would have no interest in selling the goalkeeper.

Man United paid £17.8m for de Gea back in June 2011 and after a shaky start the Spaniard has matured into one of the best keepers in Europe.
