The Gunners spent £30m on bringing the Chilean wide-man to the Emirates Stadium in what has proven to be a superb addition by Arsene Wenger, though it has now emerged that he wasn’t the club’s first choice.

Pedro was supposedly in talks to make the move to north London, with a deal close to completion before a late change of heart from the Spanish international as he remained at the Nou Camp.

In the end, Arsenal fans will probably be pleased to have signed Sanchez, who has already scored five goals and notched up two assists since arriving in England this summer, looking like one of the best signings of the whole transfer window.

Pedro, meanwhile, has not been at his best for Barcelona this season despite largely being a key player for the team since making his breakthrough under Pep Guardiola in the 2009/10 season.

The 27-year-old’s dip in form has seen him linked with a January exit from the Catalan giants as well, with English clubs again monitoring his situation.
