The Reds have targeted the Germany international as their top transfer priority in the new year, and will press ahead with a move to sign him before any of their rivals get the chance.

Borussia Dortmund are already trying to find a replacement for Reus and reports now say Liverpool will make a giant contract offer imminently as they close on a deal.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is willing to sanction a £200,000-per-week deal on a five-year contract, which would make him the club’s highest paid player ever.

Reus is currently believed to be on around £60,000-per-week in the Bundesliga and is being widely tipped to move on next year, meaning all that needs to be agreed upon is a transfer fee between the two clubs.
