The Slovakian international has been linked with top clubs in the past after a great career in the Italian top flight, and it now looks as though he is ready to move on and try a new challenge.

The 27-year-old has not been at his best so far this season, though with Napoli generally struggling it is widely accepted that they may now struggle to keep their best players as Rafael Benitez’s future in charge of the club remains uncertain.

Liverpool would do well to pounce for a player of Hamsik’s quality and experience, and are expected to move for him either in January or next summer as England seems to be his preferred destination for his next move.

Hamsik’s Napoli team-mate Gonzalo Higuain has also been linked with a move to Anfield in a possible double raid by Brendan Rodgers, with the Merseyside giants still in need of improvements in attack after losing star player Luis Suarez to Barcelona in the summer.

The club could face further departures as well, with Raheem Sterling today linked with a move to rivals Chelsea.
