United are still apparently desperate to bring the Germany international to the club to help sort out their defensive woes and have not given up on their pursuit despite having a bid for his services rejected over the summer.

Hummels had previously hinted that he was open to staying with the Bundesliga giants, but United are in the process of putting together a deal with a huge wage packet to tempt him to change his mind.

It’s claimed that Hummels is after a huge amount on his next contract and Dortmund are stalling, meaning moving to Old Trafford is becoming increasingly likely.

United are also said to be willing to pay around £40m in order to secure their man, and will make him their top transfer priority in the new year.

The club has been decimated by injuries so far this season, but having won their first back-to-back games against West Ham and Everton they can now look to putting together some sort of form.
