Galatasaray star Wesley Sneijder looks set to become a free agent after his Turkish side failed to make his wages on time for three months, which subsequently activates a clause in his contract making him available on a free transfer.

The 30 year old has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford and clearly the presence of his former national team coach Louis van Gaal will only further increase speculation over a possible move to the Premier League side.

The experienced playmaker has done well since leaving Inter Milan for Galatasaray, scoring 22 goals in 66 appearances, and winning several major honours in his time at the club but a move to Man United may well be one the flair player is ready to consider.

Sneijder made his name at Ajax before moving to Real Madrid in 2007 though it’s fair to say the Dutch international never really showed his real promise in the Spanish capital. After initially making a real mark at Inter Milan, winning a treble in his debut season, he went off the boil before moving to Galatasaray.

The chance to sign a player of Sneijder’s quality on a free transfer isn’t one that van Gaal is likely to pass up.
