The Red Devils have long been linked with the Netherlands international, who was part of Louis van Gaal’s squad for this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

The 30-year-old has not been at his best for some time, but remains a top target for United, particularly as he may be allowed an exit from Galatasaray this winter if he wins an appeal to FIFA to have his contract ripped up.

Sneijder has not been paid for three months and is thought to be owed around £1m by the Turkish giants, and he hopes he will be allowed to walk away from the club for a move elsewhere.

United could still do with further additions in the middle of the park despite bringing in the likes of Ander Herrera and Daley Blind during the summer, with van Gaal still reportedly eyeing some big names in that position.

Sneijder could be make another decent purchase for the club as they look to continue their progress this season, with the player bringing quality and experienced to the squad.
