Long term United target Turan could still be set for Old Trafford move according to agent.

Manchester United have been given some mixed messages with regard to Atletico Madrid attacking midfielder and long-term transfer target Arda Turan.

The Premier League side were thought to be close to signing the Turkish star during the summer, but nothing materialised and the playmaker remained with Atletico.

Turan’s agent Ahmet Bulut did an interview with Turkish publication Hurriyet however and revealed that United were still in for La Liga star and that he is confident they will activate the €41m buyout clause.

There were then mixed messages from the player’s associate though as he also said the deal was not imminent.

“Arda is very happy at Atletico and intends to honour his contract,” Bulut was quoted by AS.

“He has this year and then two more left on his contract and is very comfortable, but in football you never know what will happen with him or any other Atletico player.

“At the moment no possibility is open that would mean Arda leaving Atletico.”

If Turan refuses to sign a contract extension then the Red Devils could be in an excellent bargaining position.

Clubs rarely like to let star players get into the last year of their deals, and if Atleti want to get a good price for the Turkey international then they may need to cash in on him sooner rather than later.

The 27-year-old has not been a huge source of goals for the Spanish club, but he has still been a vital part of the team that has come so far and done so well over the last few seasons.
