Mata set for January switch to Serie A and end his Old Trafford nightmare.

Serie A side Juventus could offer Manchester United’s Juan Mata a way out of England in January after his career has taken a nosedive in the last couple of seasons, according to the Express.

Mata’s transfer from Chelsea to Old Trafford was one that shocked many, especially after he was voted play of the season at Stamford Bridge two years running.

He was seen as something of a panic buy by then manager David Moyes, and the £37m man has struggled to find his best form since joining the Red Devils.

The Spaniard was retained by Louis van Gaal this season despite speculation that he would be sold, but it looks like his departure could still be on the cards with a number of potential suitors.

It is unlikely that the Premier League club will get anything like what they paid for him, with reports suggesting they are asking for somewhere in the region of £23.5m for the former Blues ace.

Juve are currently offering something United aren’t as well and that’s Champions League football.

This could mean that Mata would not be particularly opposed to making the switch to Italy, especially if a bigger role and more game time comes with it.
