The Seattle Seahawks host the Dallas Cowboys at CenturyLink Field on Sunday evening hoping to improve to 4-1 for the season and remain unbeaten at home.
One of the key on-field battles has already received significant attention this week, as Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant could go head-to-head with Richard Sherman.
“He’s a great corner, arguably the best in the league,” Bryant said. “I do look forward to it, just a great battle. It’s not about that. It’s really about trying to get this ‘W.'”
However, the Seahawks’ ability to contain NFL leading rusher DeMarco Murray could well be the key to winning the game rather than looking deep.
Murray has 670 yards and five touchdowns and is just the third running back in NFL history to gain at least 100 yards in his first five games. Nevertheless, he could find it tough to extend that run any further as Seattle are holding opponents to 62.3 rushing yards per game.
On the other end of the field, the reigning Super Bowl champions have plenty of offensive threats of their own, including quarterback Russell Wilson. The NFC offensive player of the week completed 18-of-24 passes for 201 yards and two scores while he also ran 11 times for a career-best 122 yards and one touchdown in the 27-17 win over the Washington Redskins last week.
Wilson leads the NFC in completion percentage at 70.3, but opposite number on Sunday, Tony Romo, trails him in second place at 69.2.
However, it won’t be about individuals on Sunday as both teams are in competitive divisions and the win will be all that counts for both coaches.
The Seahawks are tied for first with the Arizona Cardinals in the NFC West with the San Francisco 49ers one-half game back. Meanwhile, Dallas are tied with the Philadelphia Eagles for first in the NFC East.
Romo has led the Cowboys to four straight wins over the last four weeks, but they haven’t won five consecutive games since back in 2007.
