Struggling Newcastle seek to bolster squad in January with former Liverpool striker…

Newcastle are keen to bring former Liverpool star Andy Carroll back to St James’ Park in January, with West Ham reportedly willing to offload the big target-man after a string of injuries, reports the Mirror.

After moving to London from Liverpool Carroll has spent most of his time injured, prompting the Hammers to consider shipping out the English forward.

Newcastle seem to be the club most interested in his signature, with the Magpies set to bring Carroll back after four years away.

Carroll initially made the big money move to Liverpool in 2011 for a massive £35m. He struggled at the Mersyside club and was never really able to fully settle in.

He has looked like fitting in well at West Ham, but with the cub bringing in Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia over the summer, he may find his chances limited when he does eventually return from injury.

Sam Allardyce will probably want to recoup some of the £15m he paid for Carroll in 2013, but Newcastle may prefer a loan deal in January so they can assess the big man’s injury problems.
