The 27-year-old was reportedly close to signing a deal with former club Perth Glory, but has chosen to join the Asian Champions League finalists.

“This is a class acquisition for the club. Nikita will give us options across our frontline, has a strong pedigree and is familiar with the Hyundai A-League,” Wanderers CEO John Tsatsimas said.

“We are at the beginning of a hectic season schedule and it is important that we add to the depth of our squad.

“The fact that he is an Australian player is a bonus in our view and can only be good for the Wanderers and the Australian game. We at the Western Sydney Wanderers Football Club welcome Nikita with open arms.”

Rukavytsya returns to the A-League after spending five years in Europe playing in the German Bundesliga and Dutch Eredivisie with Hertha Berlin, Mainz 05, FSV Frankfurt and FC Twente.

The Ukraine-born player will join the Wanderers on Wednesday in preparation for the Sydney Derby on Saturday night.
