The versatile England international has not managed to establish himself as a regular at the Etihad Stadium and is known to be stalling on signing a new contract with the Premier League champions.

Milner’s uncertain future has sparked interest from several clubs, with AS Roma also believed to be among clubs from Italy weighing up a January bid to lure him away from Manchester.

Milner has previously played for the likes of Aston Villa and Newcastle United in the Premier League and may be tempted to try a new challenge in a different league if the offer comes along.

Napoli manager Rafael Benitez, formerly of Liverpool and Chelsea, knows plenty about Milner’s qualities and hopes to add him to his squad as he faces some possible player exits of his own, with key midfield playmaker Marek Hamsik attracting strong interest from Liverpool.

English players are not known for moving abroad often, but Milner could join AS Roma left-back and former Chelsea star Ashley Cole in moving to the Italian top flight.
