Manchester United’s attempts to extend the contrat of young goalkeeper David de Gea, which expires in the summer of 2016, are being hampered by the intervention of super agent Jorge Mendes, report the Express, in the face of apparent interest from Real Madrid in making de Gea their long term successor to Iker Casillas.

De Gea has arguably been United’s best player at the start of the season, putting in a particularly impressive performance against Everton at Old Trafford in the Red Devils’ last home game, and started his first competitive match for Spain last night as Vicente del Bosque’s side hammered Luxembourg 4-0 to get their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign back on track.

With reports now suggesting that de Gea could be seen as the man to replace the legendary Casillas in the Real side as well as the Barcelona one, United fans will be concerned over the slow progress that is being made on a player who looks set to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world over the next decade.

His representative, however, is delaying any talks over a new contract, with further concerns coming from the fact that Mendes has a long-standing relationship with Real Madrid, having brokered the move of James Rodriguez to the Bernabeu from AS Monaco this summer – the latest in a long line of major deals for the Portuguese super agent.
