Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also said to be keen on the 21 year old Stuttgart defender, the Berlin born defender having recently started Euro 2016 qualifiers, though now Sam Allardyce will look to bring in the youngster.

Rudiger’s Stuttgart side sit near the foot of the Bundesliga table and as such may well have extra motivation to secure a move to the Premier League.

West Ham have started the season well but the Hammers may lose the services of New Zealand international Winston Reid, who is into the final year of his Upton Park contract, and Allardyce may see Rudiger as an ideal replacement.

Despite their strong start West Ham have still managed to concede ten goals in their opening seven Premier League fixtures.
