The English full-back has barely played this season due to injury, but being linked with moves abroad.

Glen Johnson is still recovering from a thigh injury and has yet to play since August 25th, but in some quarters his exit from Anfield is already being plotted.

According to Naples daily Il Mattino, Rafael Benitez, the manager who brought Johnson to Liverpool from Portsmouth in 2009, has made signing Johnson in January his priority. Benitez is suffering in Naples and desperately needs dependable faces in the dressing room to win back the favour of the famously fickle Neapolitan fans.

After spending extravagantly in the summer of 2013, when Benitez was allowed to bring in players like José Callejón, Dries Mertens and Gonzalo Higuain from under the noses of Premier League clubs, Napoli have been more conservative this year. Their summer purchases of Michu and Jonathan De Guzman have not proved sufficient, and Benitez is looking for January reinforcements.

As well as Johnson, Il Mattino links the former Liverpool manager with Manchester City’s James Milner and Marseille’s Andre Ayew, both of whom have contracts on the verge of expiring.

In the meantime, Johnson will hope to win his place in the Liverpool team back from the impressive Javier Manquillo.
