Old Trafford boss targets two of his own to plug holes in United defence.

Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal will push ahead with moves for two of his former national team defenders in January by making cut price moves for Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar and AC Milan’s Nigel de Jong.

The former Manchester City star is yet to pen a new deal with the Serie A giants, and is being targeted as the ideal man to add some steel and grit to United’s back line, whilst Vlaar, who is in a similar contractual position, is thought to be asking for double the money to stay put at Villa Park.

Both players featured for Van Gaal with the Dutch national side, and CaughtOffside understands that he will be putting together cut price packages to secure them both in the new year rather than wait to get them on a free next summer.

It’s thought that he club will offer Milan £7m for de Jong, whilst they will table £5m for Vlaar.
