Despite being 36-years-old, Pirlo is still playing at the highest level and has won three consecutive Serie A titles with Juventus in recent years.
Gerrard has modified his game with age and now performs a similar role to that of the former AC Milan ace and Balotelli thinks it’s right that his skipper be compared with the influential Italy international.
“Gerrard is an amazing player,” the 24-year-old was quoted by Goal.
“I had really not seen much of him before this season, apart from for England, but wow. I think of him as being at the same level as Pirlo.
“Vision, technique, but he is powerful as well. Stevie can do anything. It’s going to be very difficult for the team to find another player like him in the future.”
Balotelli was brought to Anfield to replace Luis Suarez – who moved to FC Barcelona during the summer – but it hasn’t really gone to plan for the front man as he has only scored one goal in eight games and he now admits that he needs to do more for his new club.
“I need to get in the box more,” the Italian added.
“I don’t do it enough, but it is something I am working to try to do more. I have never been a real, out-and-out striker – I have always been someone who goes around the pitch, you know?”
