Chelsea have been made to sweat on the fitness of star striker Diego Costa with the club concerned he faces three weeks out with his recurring hamstring problem, the Metro reports.

The Brazilian has been suffering with the issue since the end of last season while playing for Atletico Madrid, but did feature for his adopted nation Spain in their Euro 2016 qualifiers against Slovakia and Luxembourg this week.

Boss Jose Mourinho refused to comment on whether he had picked up the injury whilst on international duty with Spain, but it is believed that he is receiving extensive treatment in order to get him fit again as quickly as possible.

Failure to get him back quickly will mean that Mourinho will have just one fit striker at his disposal – summer signing Loic Remy.

Should Costa be ruled out of action for the full three weeks, though, he would miss Chelsea’s home and away Champions League matches against Maribor, the club’s league game away to Manchester United and, potentially, their clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
