The Gunners are known to be tracking the former Napoli star, who is unhappy with his current situation at PSG and looking for a move away from the French capital in the next transfer window.

Liverpool have also been strongly linked with Cavani, but it looks increasingly likely that the player himself would favour a move to Arsenal instead, if he is given the chance to depart the Parc des Princes.

The 27-year-old scored 25 goals for PSG last season, and has four this term, despite often playing out of position to accommodate star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and he would no doubt make a great singing for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Arsenal could do with extra firepower upfront, with Wenger seemingly not convinced by Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck as his only options in that part of the pitch, while Giroud is also out injured for the next few months.

Cavani is likely to be an expensive purchase, however, and would cost Arsenal a club-record £48m.
