Gunners hero tipped to beat Keane.Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira has been tipped to beat Manchester United legend Roy Keane in a fight, according to an online poll in the Daily Mirror.

Vieira himself joked that he thinks he would win in a tussle with Keane, with the pair known for their fierce on-pitch rivalry during the peak of their playing careers in the Premier League.

Both among the finest players English football has seen, both were also spirited competitors who were known to let their tempers get the better of them on more than one occasion, though the two now seem to enjoy a mutual respect and friendship.

Vieira admits he has not yet read Keane’s latest autobiography, but jokily responded that he would beat the Irishman in a fight, which has been backed up by 56 per cent of fans in the Mirror’s online poll.

The Frenchman admitted that he would come away with a few scars himself in the contest, but did not shy away from narrowly backing himself to come out on top.

“If there was a fight, it would take a long time to beat him and I would end up with a few cuts,” he said. “I don’t think he would give up easily!”

Vieira added that he loved playing against Keane because of their intense rivalry, and expects his former nemesis to be just as brutal in his new book.

“We had similar qualities as players,” he added. “We were both determined, we wanted to win, and we were both leaders of our teams. That’s why I always loved to play against him.

“I got a call from ITV asking me if I wanted to do the documentary and I said ‘yes’, because I knew he would do it. despite the rivalry, there has always been respect between us.

“I’m not surprised at all about how honest he has been in the book. That’s because the way he wrote the book is the way he was as a player.”
