The Argentine forward was linked with a move to the English top flight before the start of the season in a £28m switch.

However, the 21-year-old has now insisted that he was never intending to leave the club, but rather hopes to extend his stay if possible.

“On the renewal I don’t know anything yet. But I chose Inter, and I want to stay here,” he said.

“I want to stay because here we have a desire to build something. Because Milan is a great city, because the President [Erik Thohir] has very clear ideas and because… because I want to stay here!

“This is a new team, and a young one. Winning will take time, but that’s what we all want to do.”

it remains to be seen as to whether either Liverpool or Chelsea renew their interest in the player, though they are likely to be met with a similar response.
