Agent Ivan Corretja admits he met with City last month as speculation has mounted in Spain that Xavi could follow Frank Lampard and join New York City FC in the United States.

Speculation mounted over the summer that the veteran midfielder could be on his way to the Premier League, but Barcelona denied the rumours and he ended up staying at the Nou Camp for what will likely be his last season.

Corretja said: “It’s true that I was in England for this meeting but it was not to speak about Xavi.”

City have not done business with Barcelona ever since Yaya Toure made the move from Catalonia back in 2010 for a deal worth around £24m.
