The 24 year old French international had been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the summer but held onto the midfield battler, who has gone on to impress a great deal this season.
Tottenham are also keen on Schneiderlin, with Mauricio Pochettino looking to land his former Saints charge.
Given the great start Ronald Koeman’s side have made this term it’s plausible that Schneiderlin will look to remain at St Mary’s until the end of the season at least, the south-coast side currently sitting pretty in third place in the Premier League, five points clear of both north London sides.
Southampton were expected to struggle following the loss of Luke Shaw, Calum Chambers, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren over the summer but have gone from strength to strength with Koeman’s men securing an astonishing 8-0 win over Sunderland on Saturday.
Arsenal could well do with a combative midfielder such as Schneiderlin who could act as a long term replacement for veteran skipper Mikel Arteta.
