Following his nightmare performance versus QPR on Sunday lunchtime, maverick Italian striker Mario Balotelli must be feeling pretty down, and his mood won’t improve if he reads what the Premier League’s record goalscorer Alan Shearer had to say about him…

“Up front, Mario Balotelli had a shocking game and has now gone six Premier League games without scoring since joining Liverpool,” Shearer wrote in his BBC column.

“Balotelli’s shooting was terrible but what made things worse was that his link-up play was close to non-existent too.

“His general all-round game has to improve massively, but he will get even more criticism for it while he is not scoring goals.”

Since joining the Reds for £16m at the end of the summer transfer window, Balotelli has totally failed to live up to his price-tag or expectations.

He’s yet to score a Premier League goal, despite taking 30 shots on goal. Against Harry Redknapp’s QPR side, he was particularly wasteful, missing an open goal, and continually shooting on goal when his teammates were better placed.

As a result, many Liverpool fans have turned on him already via Twitter, desperately wishing they still had the brilliant Uruguayan Luis Suarez, or at least the injured Daniel Sturridge to lead the line.

Balotelli has bagged one Champions League goal for Brendan Rodgers’ side, and he’ll be desperate to silence some of his doubters by adding another versus Real Madrid on Wednesday night.
