Nani signed a new Man United deal last term, tying him to the club until 2018, but the arrival of Angel di Maria may well have put paid to any hope of a first team future, not least with Ashley Young, Luis Antonio Valencia and Adnan Januzaj also available to boss Louis van Gaal.

On the subject of his long term future Nani stated;

“At this moment the most important thing for me is to be here among my people. They have close people who care about me at Sporting and they want me here. Everybody here is close to me and supports me. I’m happy to be back.”
