Despite spending nearly £150 million on new players during the summer, Louis van Gaal’s side have yet to reach top gear so far this season and have already lost games to Swansea City and Leicester City.

Despite this, Irvine is convinced that the Red Devils have enough quality players to cause his side problems.

He said: ‘They are still Manchester United and have some great players. It’s going to be a huge game for our club, players and fans.

‘When the fixtures come out most people up and down the country look to see when they are playing Manchester United at home.

‘They have been a fantastic team over the years but the squad was looking like it was going to need some changes and I read something from Sir Alex Ferguson saying it has needed an overhaul.”

Manchester United will look to get three points against the Baggies as they face Premier League leaders Chelsea and rivals Manchester City in their next two games after the match at the Hawthorns.
