The Spanish striker looks set to miss several of Chelsea upcoming games, including their match against Maribor on Tuesday night.

However, Wilkins thinks his former side will still cope without Costa because they have Loic Remy, who started in the Spaniard’s absence against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

“The signing of Loic Remy, just before the end of the transfer window, was a fantastic bit of business for Chelsea,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “I saw some of his work [against Crystal Palace] and he was bringing balls into play, turning and looked sharp. He’ll score goals as well.

“Chelsea look imperious at the moment. They are playing some fantastic football.”

After the Champions League clash with Maribor, Chelsea take on Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United at Old Trafford next Sunday.

Diego Costa has been a huge figure for the Blues since he signed from Atletico Madrid last summer, scoring nine goals in just seven Premier League appearances.
