Real Madrid’s injuries give Liverpool hope in build up to Champions League clash

Sergio Ramos has been ruled out of Real Madrid’s game with Liverpool tomorrow night with a calf complaint, reports ESPN.

Gareth Bale has also not made the journey to Merseyside, with the Welsh superstar ruled out through a buttock injury. However, both Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane have joined the squad after each recovered from a fever that kept them out of the weekend game against Levante.

Ramos picked up his injury in a league match against Athletic Bilbao at the beginning of the month, but will be hopeful of being fit for El Clasico on the weekend. His presence at the back will be sorely needed against a potential front line of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez – who could make his debut after suspension.

These injuries will give Liverpool hope going in to a game where they need to pick up points after losing to Basel in the last round of fixtures.

However, it will still be an uphill task. Real Madrid’s strength in depth is such that it will be Varane and Isco who should come in to the side – two players who would likely walk in to Liverpool’s starting XI at the moment.
