The Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning get back to work on Thursday night as they host AFC West rivals, the San Diego Chargers.
Manning set the NFL record for passing touchdowns last week as he surpassed Brett Favre for top spot on the all-time list to move to 510, however, he has stressed the importance of getting minds focused on the task in hand on Thursday.
The veteran quarterback has thrown a touchdown in all 11 career meetings with the Chargers and was 3-0 before San Diego defeated Denver 27-20 at Mile High last December, and recent history will serve as a reminder that this will be a tough contest.
Opposite number Philip Rivers has been in impressive form this season with 17 touchdowns, three interceptions and the third-highest passer rating in the NFL, although he arrives off the back of his least productive game of the season in the loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
Rivers went 17-of-31 for 205 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the 23-20 loss, with the Chiefs dominating possession throughout and that is likely what the Broncos will also look to do with their offensive weapons.
Julius Thomas leads the NFL with nine touchdown receptions while Ronnie Hillman has stepped in for Montee Ball, and so the Broncos will be in confident mood about moving clear at the top of the AFC West.
Denver currently lead the way with a 5-1 record so far this season, but the Chargers aren’t too far behind at 5-2 and a win at Mile High will certainly shake things up in the division.
