Brendan Rodgers is keen on bringing in the German international and Liverpool are ready to meet his reported £20m release clause and the 25 year old has turned down the offer of a new deal from his Westfalenstadion employers.

Reus wants a contract worth £180k a week and is apparently willing to join Liverpool if they make such an offer.

Liverpool spent huge sums over the summer and one wonders if the club’s owners are willing to dig deep to land Reus, and cover his salary, given the large numbers of players Rodgers brought in following the departure of Luis Suarez to Barcelona.

Reus could offer Liverpool a solid link between midfield and attack or could perhaps be a player Rodgers would use in a striking role, the former Borussia Monchengladbach man having a healthy strike rate.
