The 30 year old England international’s Liverpool contract expires at the end of the season and the Merseyside club do not appear to be interested in renewing the full-back’s deal.

Galatasaray are one club said to be keen on the former Chelsea and West Ham man though the defender’s £152k a week wages may well scare off potential suitors.

Johnson has started just three of Liverpool’s nine Premier League fixtures this season and his display against Real Madrid last week was particularly poor.

Brendan Rodgers has seen Atletico Madrid loanee Javi Manquillo impress in the right-back role and can also call upon youngster John Flanagan to fill the berth so may well feel he can do without Johnson.

Liverpool paid Portsmouth £18m for Johnson back in 2009 and though he has at times been a very consistent performer he has flattered to deceive in recent seasons.

One imagines Liverpool would accept a nominal fee for Johnson in January in preference to losing the player on a free transfer at the end of the current campaign.
