The former centre back turned Sky Sports pundit has commented that he would be available if the right job comes up, but reports in the Daily Star fail to mention whether an offer has yet been made.

Alternatively, the Metro, claim that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers should bring Carragher back to sort out Liverpool’s defence, which has kept just two clean sheets in all competitions so far this season.

The Anfield club continue to have defensive problems, despite bringing in two new full-backs and a centre-half in the summer. Dejan Lovren was heralded as a leader that could martial the Reds’ defence, but the goals (19 in 13 games so far this year) are still being leaked at the back.

Rodgers recently told reporters: “Our problem and the issue we have, which we need to find the solution for, is our lack of coaching time.

“Take this week, we played Wednesday night, the players physically recover on Thursday, and that leaves us with only a short period of time on the training field before we’ve got the game on Saturday.”

The addition of an out-and-out defensive coach, such as Carragher, would certainly go some way to solving that issue, as it would allow Rodgers to spend more time focusing on other areas of the team.
